Despite criticism of the defender, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insists he still has faith in Harry Maguire.

This season, Maguire has faced boos from some of his own supporters while representing his club and nation, and on Monday during England's 3-3 draw with Germany, he committed mistakes that led to two goals from Germany.

"I back him because I believe in him. It's about him. I'm sure he can do it. He'll turn this around. I am really convinced of that," said Ten Hag.

In recent weeks, playmaker Bruno Fernandes has taken the captaincy over Maguire because Ten Hag prefers the centre defensive pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Maguire has played in just three Premier League games so far this year.

"Even after he wasn't in the team, he trained really well," said Ten Hag of the English defender.

"But more importantly, the quality was there. You see his career, almost 50 caps for England. He's performed really well for Leicester and Manchester United. What you see is he has a high potential."
