LAHORE: National cricketer Umar Akmal said he didn't get the deserved respect during this year's National T20 Cup 2022.

Umar was selected for Central Punjab (CP)'s second XI team. According to the cricketer, he was told to play the first few matches from second XI team in National T20 Cup and later on he will get promoted to first XI tournament.

But, the cricketer was ignored throughout the tournament which made him upset.

Speaking to a sports YouTube channel, Umar claimed that he didn't get any response in this regard when he contacted Nadeem Khan (Director High-Performance Center), Abdul Razzaq (CP's head coach), and Mohammad Wasim (National team's chief selector).

"I was told to play a first few matches in second XI and then I will be promoted to first XI. The whole tournament passed away and no one approached me," said Umar.

"When the half tournament was over and we went to Multan for the second phase, I contacted Nadeem Bhai, Razzaq Bhai and our chief selector Mohammad Wasim. I got no response from them," the cricketer claimed.

The veteran of 16 Tests, 124 ODIs and 84 T20Is, Umar wanted to make his case stronger by playing in first XI National T20 Cup.

"I wanted to play in the first XI tournament. I could have performed and prove myself to make my case stronger, especially for PSL selection," he concluded.

Umar last represented Pakistan in the white-ball format in 2019.
