KARACHI: The Football Association has filed charges against Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo concerning a video that appeared to show him shoving a fan's phone out of his grasp.

After a 1-0 loss against Everton in April, a video and comments were posted on social media stating that he had broken the device as he was leaving the field.

Later, Ronaldo issued an online apology.

After the incident, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram that it was "never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing".

"Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.

"I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship."

Police issued a warning to him about the August incident.

"It is alleged that the forward's conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent," the FA said in a statement.

Manchester United stated that they will back Ronaldo's denial of the accusation.

The loss at Everton ended United's chances of making the Champions League. They ultimately came in sixth.
