SEOUL: Britain tennis star Emma Raducanu upset Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 6-3 7-5 to advance to the Korea Open's quarterfinals.

Wickmayer's serve was broken three times in a row by Raducanu, the 77th-ranked player in the world, to win the opening set.

After being brought to deuce in the previous game, Raducanu broke again to win a cagey second set.

Next, the 19-year-old will face Poland's Magda Linette, the world's number 51 player.

Since her remarkable run to the US Open triumph in September 2021, Raducanu's victory over Linette would mark the first time she has won three matches in a single tournament.

Before taking a break for the birth of her first child in 2021, Wickmayer was ranked as high as 12th in the world. She grew into the match and presented a danger to force a decider.

However, Raducanu, who has been training with Dmitry Tursunov since July, maintained her composure and consistency to finish the game in victory.
