Emma Raducanu beats Moyuka Uchijima to reach second round of Korea Open

SEOUL: In the opening round of the Korea Open, Britain's Emma Raducanu defeated Japan's Moyuka Uchijima in spite of a late stumble.

The 19-year-old Raducanu held a 5-0 lead in the second set but double-failed on match point before prevailing 6-2 6-4.

After losing in the first round of the US Open earlier this month, Raducanu, who had been ranked 10th in the world in August, has fallen to position 77.

Uchijima, who is ranked 126th in the world and has never competed in a Grand Slam match, won four straight games in the second set to bring Raducanu back to 5-4 before the Briton served out the victory after one hour and eighteen minutes.
