KARACHI: Due to an alleged scheme to extort money from his brother, French international Paul Pogba, Mathias Pogba has been detained and is the subject of a legal investigation.

Reuters and Agence France-Presse were informed by court sources that four additional people are currently the subject of formal inquiries into possible charges of extortion and criminal association.

Yassine Bouzrou, Mathias' attorney, asserted that his client is wholly innocent.

"We are going to challenge this decision," he told French broadcaster BFMTV.

Mathias Pogba has acknowledged that he was responsible for a film that surfaced online last month and promised "revelations" about Paul.

Following Paul's claims that he was the victim of extortion and threats from an organised gang, French prosecutors started a judicial inquiry earlier this month. Paul was a former player for Manchester United.

On July 16, he complained to Turin's prosecutors, stating that he was the target of a 13 million euro extortion conspiracy.

World Cup champion Pogba left Manchester United this summer and joined Juventus on a free transfer.

In addition to playing for teams in Europe, Mathias Pogba is a professional footballer who has represented Guinea in matches and has captained Crewe, Wrexham, Crawley, and Partick Thistle.
