LAS VEGAS: Throughout 12 rounds, Saul Canelo Alvarez completely outclassed Gennady Golovkin to retain his undisputed super-middleweight title.

It was the third meeting between the two modern-day greats, and Alvarez claimed a second victory after a contentious tie in the opening fight.

All three judges agreed that Alvarez won after avoiding a comeback attempt by Golovkin in the later rounds, awarding him victories of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.

"Thank you, my friend, we gave the fans three great fights," said the Mexican.

Even though their rivalry soured during the four-year wait for the trilogy bout, which saw Alvarez retain the IBF, WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC championships, they hugged warmly after the fight.

"I want to shake hands with Canelo. Congrats to all his team. He's a real warrior - if you don't understand that, you don't understand nothing," Golovkin said.
