KARACHI: Following a news conference yesterday where he received a warning not to interfere with his team, Khamzat Chimaev informed Nate Diaz he "got what he deserved."

The main event of UFC 279 will pit the Swedish fighter against promotional superstar Diaz on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena.

A press conference was arranged for last night. The event, which appeared to be proceeding as usual, was abruptly cancelled following a brawl between the participants' teams backstage.

According to reports, the altercation started when Kevin Holland got into a fight with Chimaev and his squad. Holland will meet Daniel Rodriguez in one of the main card's most thrilling fights. It is alleged that the public press conference was eventually suspended when it allegedly turned into a melee involving both teams and Diaz's group.

"I told them: Don’t joke with us. Kevin got what he deserved. Diaz got what he deserved," Chimaev told MMA Junkie.

After a lengthy wait, as is customary with Diaz news conferences, UFC president Dana White was compelled to take the stage to inform the audience of the event's cancellation. Later, he claimed that the fighters' large crews contributed to a problem that rendered the performance unworkable during a press conference.
