KARACHI: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif lifted ban on the departmental sports of Pakistan on Thursday.

The premier was announced while addressing the national athletes, who secured medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022 and the Islamic Games 2022.

Shehbaz, on Thursday, called on national athletes, including Arshad Nadeem and Nooh Dastagir - the two managed to bag Gold medals for Pakistan in the CWG 2022.

"I am lifting the ban on departmental sports, as it will increase competition. It will provide an opportunity to national male and female athletes to showcase their talents and skills," Shehbaz said.

The PM's office also took to their official Twitter handle to announced the removal of the ban.

"Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced lifting of the ban on departmental sports in the country," it wrote.

"The ban was imposed by the previous government asking all public departments, corporations, and autonomous bodies to stop their funding of sports teams in 30 different disciplines."

It should be mentioned here that Pakistan bagged overall eight medals in the CWG 2022. Arshad (Javelin Throw) and Nooh Butt (Weightlifting) won Gold medals, Inam Butt (Wrestling), Zaman Anwar (Wrestling), and Mohammad Sharif Tahir (Wrestling) bagged Silver medals, whereas Inayatullah (Wrestler), Ali Asad (Wrestler) Hussain Shah (Judo) got their hands on Bronze medals.
