KARACHI: American Golfer Patrick Reed has filed a $750 million lawsuit against The Golf Channel and broadcaster Brandel Chamblee.

The lawsuit claims that 2018 Masters champion Reed has suffered significant harm as a result of "calculated, intentional, misleading, and reckless attacks."

The 32-year-old American claims that his multimillion-dollar sponsorship deals have been lost as a result of the remarks.

Reed's charges have not yet received a response from Chamblee or The Golf Channel.

In June, Reed signed up for the LIV Golf Series.

According to the lawsuit, Chamblee and the network "actively targeted Reed since he was 23 years old, to ruin his reputation, generate animosity and a hostile work environment for him, and tarnish his name and accomplishments as a young, elite, world-class golfer."

Further, Reed charges Chamblee with "misreporting information" and "reckless disregard of the truth."

Several well-known athletes have switched from the PGA Tour, which is based in America, to the £1.6 billion LIV Golf circuit, which is supported by Saudi Arabia. In response, the PGA Tour banned players who signed with LIV Golf for an indefinite period and increased the prize money for a number of its competitions.

Players from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf Circuit are likely to engage in several legal disputes, and this week, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy met to discuss the threat posed by the Saudi-funded tour.
