MUZAFFARABAD: Rawalakot Hawks beat Jammu Janbaz in a rain-effected opening match of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) season 2 here on Saturday.

Hawks were declared the winners by 11 runs (D/L method) after rain interrupted the league opener after they scored 50 runs in 5.1 overs.

Skipper Ahmed Shehzad was bowled out by Imran Khan Sr. But, Bismillah Khan 16 (10) and Babar Khaliq 13 (7) were on the crease.

Earlier, opening batter Sharjeel Khan was unstoppable against Hawks as he smashed power-packed 89 runs to help Janbaz post 178-4.

Sent into bat first, Janbaz lost their opener Shahbaz for naught but Sharjeel looked extremely solid to rescue the newly-introduced KPL franchise.

Alongside Sahibzada Farhan, Shrajeel powered Janbaz to score 145 runs for the loss of one wicket in 14.5 overs. A strong 145-runs partnership between Sharjeel and Farhan ensured a big total on the scoreboard.

The two batters scored their maiden half-centuries of this season, strengthening the position of their team while setting the target.

Farhan scored 56 off 44 balls laced with five boundaries and two maximums whereas left-hander Sharjeel smoked 89 off 51 including seven boundaries and eight towering sixes.

Shahid Afridi lit up the crowd with not just his presence but a cameo of 15 runs with two boundaries.

For defending champions Hawks, Mohammad Amir, Faisal Akram and Asif Afridi bagged a wicket each.
