KARACHI: The Pakistan Olympic Association has formed a four-member committee to investigate how two boxer – Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah Khan – from Pakistan’s contingent went missing at the conclusion of Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in Birmingham.

An official of Pakistan Boxing Federation, without sharing any further information, confirmed the incident.

The four member committee will be headed by Mohammad Shafiq, who is the president of Pakistan Handball Federation. Other members of committee include a member of Pakistan Sports Board (to be nominated by PSB), Colonel Sadaf Akram, secretary of Army Sports Directorate and Lt. Col ® Muhammad Nasir Ejaz Tung, secretary of Pakistan Boxing Federation.

The committee will initiate the inquiry upon return of boxing contingent to Pakistan.

The source, while narrating the incident at Birmingham, told Geo that the team bus from Birmingham to London Heathrow was schedule to depart at 11:45am where team was scheduled to fly at 9:55pm.

The two boxers – Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah – was seen for inhouse breakfast at 10am but they never reported to coach for departure.

Team coach requested the hotel management to check players hotel room where they found the luggage but players were missing.

The source said that passport, with six month valid visa stamped, are with management of Pakistan Boxing team.

Pakistani officials have informed the commonwealth games federation and consulate general Pakistan of incident and the CGF has alerted the concerned authorities on the matter.

Earlier, three members of Sri Lanka contingent also fled from CWG 2022 village. Two out of three members were located by the Birmingham police later on.
