Australia beat India to win women's cricket event in Commonwealth Games 2022

Australia bagged Gold, India won Silver whereas New Zealand got their hands on Bronze medal

BIRMINGHAM: Australia, with their all-round performance, beat India by nine runs to win the Women's Cricket event in Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. 

After setting India to chase 162 runs, Australia bowled out the opponents for 152 runs despite heroics from their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. 

Kaur was on song with her 65 runs knock that also included seven boundaries and two sixes. Helpless Kaur couldn't save India from defeat as they fell 10 runs short of the target due to batting collapse. 

Jemimah Rodriques scored 33 runs including three boundaries. 

Ashleigh Gardner bagged three wickets followed by Megan Schutt's two scalps which helped Australia notch the inaugural edition of cricket event in CWG. 

Earlier, Beth Mooney smashed 61 runs off 41 balls laced with eight boundaries to help Australia post 161-8 in 20 overs. Meg Lanning contributed 36 runs whereas Gardner scored worthy 25 runs. 

For India, Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana took two scalps. 

Australia bagged gold, India won silver whereas New Zealand got their hands on bronze medal after defeating home side England.
