BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem pulled off a sensational win in Men's Javelin throw event to win Gold in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Arshad made a national and Commonwealth Games record after throwing at 90.18 metres to clinch Gold for Pakistan.

With the feat, the 25-year-old beat Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra's Tokyo Olympic throw of 87.58m, which helped him win Gold, and the World Athletics Championship throw of 88.13m, which helped the Indian athlete win Silver.

Meanwhile, Arshad had finished fifth in both events, with a throw of 86.16m in the World Athletics Championship 2022 and an 82.91m throw in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Arshad's throw of 90.18 metres is the third best throw of the year. This year, Grenada's Anderson Peters, who was the Pakistani athlete's rival in today's final, has thrown 93.07 meters, and Jakub Vadlejch has thrown 90.88 meters.

Also, he became the second Asian to secure the record for the highest throw as Taiwan's Chao Suncheng had a throw of 91.36 meters in 1993.
