LOS CABOS: Daniil Medvedev, making his debut at the Abierto de Tenis Mifel and playing in his first match since June, eased back into action with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Australian wild card Rinky Hijikata.

The World No. 1 won his 250th match while playing on his preferred hard courts for the first time since reaching the quarterfinals of the Miami Open in March.

"Someone told me this a few days ago. Otherwise, I would not have known. That’s nice, a milestone in a way. I want more victories, but that’s nice to have 250. We’ll try to get more." Medvedev said after the match.

As he settled in on the Los Cabos stadium court, Medvedev gained his first break of the match to close out the first set. Midway through the second set, he converted on his fifth break point of the match.

World No. 224 Hijikata, a North Carolina Tar Heel, made a loud exit. The 21-year-old took advantage of the opportunity, creating his fair share of highlights by using his agility to cover the court and exhaust Medvedev for more than 90 minutes.

Next up for Medvedev in the quarterfinals is Ricardas Berankis, who overcame Facundo Bagnis on Wednesday with scores of 7-6(4), 6-3.
