RUSSIA: Former Russian MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, the longest-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, shared how his life was changed after he lost his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov back in 2019 due to COVID-19.

Speaking on the occasion of his induction to UFC Hall of Fame, Nurmagomedov said his perception about life was totally different when his father was alive.

"I can do whatever I want in life. I can buy any house in the world. But after my father's demise, my this perspective about life has changed completely," he shared.

"I remember like 10 years ago, my mind was completely different. 'Oh, I’m going to become champion. I’m going to become rich. I’m going to buy everything',

"But everything what happened the last two years, this has changed my mind and changed the way how I was thinking," he maintained.

Nurmagomedov ensures his father's legacy by giving back to the next generation of athletes, including current UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev.

"Right now what I'm doing, you guys believe me, if nothing happens the next four or five years, we're going to have three more UFC champions from our gym. Believe me, guys. You can save this video, and you’re going to understand what I’m talking about," he concluded.

It must be noted here that Nurmagomedov had a historic run through the UFC, having a perfect 29-0 record before retiring.
