KARACHI: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood is not satisfied with the direction of the national cricket governing body and said that the PCB only wants glamour.

Speaking on his visit to Lahore Qalandars' High Performance Center, he said: "I am not satisfied with the direction of Pakistan cricket at the moment as the high officials of the board only focus on glamour".

According to the former chairman, the PCB organises international cricket, so people appreciate it, receiving media attention. However, it is important to remember that real cricket is at the grassroots level, and because it lacks glamour, the cricket board and other stakeholders don't pay attention to it.

"I do not hear or read anything about club cricket, it is just being said that scrutiny is taking place, data is being collected, but four years are about to complete, and there has not been any program yet," he said.

He said that the arrival of foreign teams is very important, there have been cases of terrorism then there was COVID-19.

"Now the arrival of teams is a success, but the real success is to get club cricket because big players have come out of club cricket. Pay attention to the lower level, and you will find great talent," Khalid added.

Khalid said that to become a professional and complete cricketer, facilities should be provided at the lower level which is now being provided by Lahore Qalandars.

"No private institution has facilities like Qalandars High Performance Center. It can be compared with the facilities of PCB, but in many facilities, this center is better," he signed off.
