ISLAMABAD: Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene highly rated Pakistan's legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram.

In his recent interview, Jayawardene called Akram the' toughest bowler' he had faced during his playing days.

"He [Wasim Akram] was the toughest bowler I ever faced," the former cricketer shared. "When I started my career, he was at peak of his career. No batsman in the world had an answer to his bowling ability. He kept an ability to deceive the batsman any time by swinging the bowl from both sides," he said.

Wasim, who represented Pakistan from 1984 to 2003, took the highest 414 Test wickets and 502 wickets in ODI formats. He is regarded as one of the finest bowlers Pakistan has ever produced.
