KARACHI: Former hockey Olympian and coach of Pakistan's five-a-side team Rehan Butt has said that Pakistan has the skills to perform better in the short-format tournament, scheduled in Lausanne, Switzerland, from June 4.

Butt has high hopes that Pakistan can get on top of other teams and be on the winning side.

"Pakistan will perform better in the upcoming HOCKEY5s competition since both the Pakistani and Indian hockey team possess skills that will benefit both teams in the short format.

"Our goal is to win against Malaysia or India to advance in the competition because Pakistani players are more skilled than Swiss and Polish players and will outperform them. So we will easily beat them," Butt said.

Talking about the newly introduced format, the 41-year-old said that it's a more fast and more intense game and will require great fitness.

"Whoever works hard on his fitness and adapts to the new format's playing style, that team will succeed in the event."

The ten-member squad includes Waqar Younis (goalkeeper), Ehtesham Aslam, Aqeel Ahmed, Mohammad Murtaza Yaqoob, Tazeem-ul-Hassan (captain), Arshad Liaqat, Hassan Amin, Abuzar, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Shahzeb.

The national hockey team will leave for Lausanne, Switzerland, on June 2.
