KARACHI: Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam has heaped massive praise on Abdullah Shafique, saying his presence makes it difficult for Shan Masood and other "polished batters" to make their spot in the national team.
The 22-year-old has attracted the attention of many, but, this time, Babar has lauded the youngster, saying that members of the Pakistan cricket team compare him to legendary batters, New Zealand's Kane Williamson and India's Rahul Dravid.
"I personally watch and definitely enjoy Abdullah’s stylish batting. He plays very clean, his stance and the way he ducks the ball are impressive. Usually we compare him to Kane Williamson and Rahul Dravid. We call him Dravid," Babar told Dawn.
"In the presence of Abdullah, the place of opener Shan Masood, another polished batter, may be in doubt, but our main aim in selecting an individual is the team’s interest," he added.
Shafique, who made his Test debut against Bangladesh in November 2021, was an instrumental part of Pakistan's Test team against the Aussies as he scored 397 runs in three matches against the Kangaroos.
