Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has suggested a strange yet somewhat effective alternative to draw a winner after the controversial end to the Cricket World Cup 2019.
The nail-biting Super Over between England and New Zealand ended with a tie, declaring the hosts as world champions on the basis of a higher boundary count. The puzzling rule sparked debate and questioned the ICC's regulations . It was regarded as "absurd" and many were quick to call out the hosts as the wrongful title holders.
The former captain could not help but speak out in light of the unfortunate situation and gave his input on what a better alternative could be.
“I feel there should be another super over to decide the winner, instead of considering the number of boundaries scored by both teams. Not just in a World Cup final. Every game is important. Like in football, when teams go into extra time, nothing else matters,” Tendulkar stated in his app 100mb.
The tie-breaker on both occasions went down as cricket history's most epic endings. The gut-wrenching defeat was one that the Kiwis would take a lifetime to forget.
Captain Kane Williamson did not believe that the Kiwis lost and said that “no one lost the final.”
