PARIS: Iga Swiatek, the world number one, started her French Open campaign with a fast win against Lesia Tsurenko, demonstrating why she is the clear favourite.

In a high-quality first-round match, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka was defeated by Amanda Anisimova.

Swiatek of Poland displayed her full potential in a 6-2 6-0 triumph on Court Philippe Chatrier in just 54 minutes.

By defeating the Ukrainian, the 20-year-old, who won Roland Garros in 2020, extended her winning streak to 29 matches.

Anisimova, who stopped Osaka's Australian Open title defence in January, defeated the former world number one Japanese 7-5 6-4.

Anisimova, a 2019 semi-finalist, will face Donna Vekic of Croatia next.
