PARIS: On the first day of the French Open, Spanish Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz defeated Argentina's Juan Ignacio Londero in straight sets.
After a strong start to 2022, Alcaraz is among the favourites for the men's singles title.
After overcoming a close first set, Alcaraz gradually gained control and won 6-4 6-2 6-0.
In recent weeks, the Spaniard has dominated the ATP Tour, taking titles in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona, and, maybe most importantly, Madrid.
On the clay in Madrid, he has beaten Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev, putting him among the favourites to win Roland Garros.
Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced as well, defeating Sebastian Ofner in straight sets.
In the second round, the third seed, 25, defeated Austrian qualifier Ofner 6-2 6-4 6-4 and will face either Serb Dusan Lajovic or Argentine Sebastian Baez.
