KARACHI: Dustin Poirier's fight request has finally been met, as Stephen Thompson has agreed to face the UFC star in July.

Since losing the UFC lightweight championship to Charles Oliveira in December, Poirier has been looking for his next bout. He had been attempting for months to face Nate Diaz, but the bout was never arranged, and the promotion has now moved on from the booking.

Since his previous bout, 'The Diamond' has been gearing up in preparation for his welterweight debut. Poirier, who began his UFC career at 145 pounds, now has a bout scheduled against former championship challenger Stephen Thompson.

"155 or 170 anyone pull up July 30th. International call out. Get a deal done,"  Poirier wrote.

Thompson then replied: "Hey Dustin Poirier I’m down to scrap! July 30th Let’s go! Respectfully."

Thompson has been defeated in his previous two UFC fights, most recently by Belal Muhammad in December. Since outpointing Geoff Neal in December 2020, the experienced kickboxing world champion has not won a bout.
