BIRMINGHAM: Sadio Mane scored in the 65th minute against Aston Villa to help Liverpool secure a crucial win at Villa Park.
And, with a subtle turn of his head, Mane produced another key contribution, just when Liverpool's historic quadruple bid appeared to be in jeopardy following Saturday's tie with Spurs.
The Reds needed to win, and with the score at 1-1 after 65 minutes, the pressure was mounting and Mane then demonstrated his class one again.
The exceptional Luis Diaz provided the cross, which was not exactly inch-perfect, but Mane's awareness, accuracy, and athleticism allowed him to angle a header over Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez's outstretched left arm while being virtually on the retreat.
It was crunch time, and a disorganized Liverpool performance earned them three points, putting them only a goal difference behind Manchester City with two games remaining. City must now respond on Wednesday at Wolves.
