KARACHI: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has wished ex-West Indies legendary batter Brian Lara as he celebrates his 53rd birthday today.
Taking to Twitter, Akhtar wished the former West Indian skipper a happy birthday and heaped praise on him, saying Lara is one of the "very few" players who can truly be called a legend.
"Happy Birthday Brian Lara. Very few people who actually justify being called a legend, you're definitely one of them," the Rawalpindi Express wrote.
It may be recalled that Akhtar had once unintentionally smashed Lara on the head with a ferocious bouncer during a match between West Indies and Pakistan in 2004.
After hitting the left-handed batter, Akhtar rushed toward him to check on him. Fortunately, Lara didn't sustain any critical injury.
It is pertinent to mention here that Lara smashed 11953 runs in Tests, while he scored 10405 runs in ODIs for the West Indies.
