MEMPHIS: With a dramatic 117-116 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies, the Golden State Warriors seized a 1-0 lead in their NBA play-off Western Conference semi-final at the FedExForum.
Late in the game, Klay Thompson made a three-pointer to give the Warriors the lead, only to miss two free throws.
The Warriors hung on when Grizzlies forward Ja Morant missed a contested lay-up at the buzzer.
The Warriors played the entire second half without crucial player Draymond Green, who was disqualified soon before halftime for a flagrant-two penalty on Brandon Clarke.
Jordan Poole scored 31 points for the visitors in Memphis, while Stephen Curry contributed 24.
Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to a 101-89 victory against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The reigning champion Bucks seized a 1-0 series lead in Boston when Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, had a triple-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists.
