MUMBAI: Brilliant knocks from Rahul Tripathi (71) and Aiden Markram (68) helped Sunrisers Hyderabad chase down the 176-run target by seven wickets in the one-sided Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Brabourne Stadium.
Hyderabad, who put Kolkata into bat, was given an exceptional start by their bowlers as they reduced them to 31-3, before the important innings from Nitish Rana (54) and Andre Russell (49) helped the losing team reach a respectable 175-run total.
However, in reply, Kolkata was also put under early pressure as Pat Cummins removed Abhishek Sharma (3) with just three runs on the board. Skipper Kane Williamson (17) who was looking good and negated the pressure from Kolkata bowlers quite well had to go back after Andre Russell clean bowled him.
But, after that, Tripathi and Markram, forged an exceptional 94-run stand as both of them played some very good aggressive shots and also rotated the strike well.
Tripathi, who scored 71 runs off just 37 balls with six sixes and four fours was removed by Russell, but not before doing all the damage.
While Markram remained not-out during the 36-ball knock, and he also smashed the winning six as Hyderabad romped to the victory in 17.5 overs.
For Kolkata, spinner Sunil Narine was very economical as he gave away just 23 runs in four overs, while pacer Umesh Yadav gave 31. Cummins and Russell were among the wicket-takers, but they went for plenty of runs.
