MOHALI: Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's heroics, both with the bat and the ball, led India to a resounding win by an innings and 222 runs in the one-sided first Test against Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium — and go 1-0 up in the two-match series.

India after declaring their innings at 574 runs with Jadeja scoring a sensational 175 — put Sri Lanka under the pump as they left them tottering at 108-4 at the close of Day 2.

And on Day 3, the Indian bowlers were on the money once again as Sri Lankan was bowled out — twice for scores of — 174 and 178.

The fifth-wicket stand of 58 runs between Charith Asalanka and Niroshan Dickwella offered some resistance, but they both fell one after the other —while other batters fell like a pack of cards.

Jadeja showed his class with the ball as well, picking up five wickets, while Ravi Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah picked two and Mohammad Shami one as skipper Rohit Sharma decided to enforce the follow-on.

And things became from bad to worse as their three top-order batters were sent back with the score of just 45 runs with Ashwin doing the most of the damage.

When Sri Lanka's score was nine, Lahiru Thirimanne was removed by Ashwin for zero, and 10 runs later he also dismissed Pathum Nissanka for six. Pacer Shami took the scalp of skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for 27 runs.

Though, Niroshan Dickwella remained the only notable scorer with a 51-run not-out knock, while Angelo Matthews scored 28, and Dhananjaya de Silva 30 as Sri Lanka lost with India dominating them in all departments.

Ashwin and Jadeja took four wickets each in a resounding victory.
