Jadeja's heroic 175, and contributions from bowlers put India in control of first Test

MOHALI: India ended the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in a bossing position, as the tourists are tottering at 108-4 after the hosts' posted a massive 574-run total courtesy of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's sensational 175 and a useful 61 from Ravi Ashwin.

India who ended Day 1 being 357-6 were dependent on Jadeja and Ashwin to score at least fifties and take them to a massive total.

And Jadeja just did that, he forged an important 130-run stand with Aswin for the seventh wicket. Ashwin scored 61 runs off 82 balls with eight fours, while Jadeja stole the limelight with a monumental knock in which he made the Lankan bowlers suffer.

During his knock not-out knock, he smashed 17 fours and three sixes before India declared the innings.

In reply, the Sri Lanka batters showed good intent and were playing well, but off-spinner Ashwin made the first breakthrough as he dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne for 17 with India's score of 48 runs. 11 runs later, Jadeja removed the skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for 28. 

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah removed Angelo Matthews for 22 runs, while Ashwin took the second wicket by sending the de Silva for one.
