RAWALPINDI: Test specialist Azhar Ali nearly missed a chance to join Zaheer Abbas and Mohammad Yousaf who scored second-most double-centuries in Test cricket from Pakistan.

The right-handed batter fell on a misjudged reverse sweep shot off Marnus Labuschagne after scoring 185.

Had he scored 200, he would have joined Abbas and Yousaf to score four double-hundreds (second-most from Pakistan) in Test cricket. Also, he would have become the first Pakistani batter to score two double-hundreds against Australia.

Javed Miandad and Younis Khan, both with six double-hundreds, are leading the double-centuries chart.

Earlier, Azhar registered a record of becoming the first Pakistani to score back-to-back double-hundreds in a single year (2016). He scored an unbeaten 302 in the day-night Test against West Indies followed by 205-runs not out in Melbourne.

Azhar is also the only Pakistani batter to score a double-hundred in Australia.
