Karachi Kings disastrous campaign in PSL 7 ends with another defeat

Quetta Gladiators have defeated Karachi Kings by 23 runs as they successfully defended the 167-run target courtesy of Khurram Shahzad and Naseem Shah's spells in the 28th match of this year's Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. 

This was Karachi's ninth defeat in this year's PSL as they only won a single game and lost nine under their new skipper Babar Azam.

While chasing the target, Kings got a very good 87-run opening start from their openers Babar and Joe Clarke. Babar scored 36 runs off 34 balls but absorbed too many dot balls. 

While Clarke was handy with the bat as he scored 52 runs off 39 balls with two sixes and four fours. 

Sharjeel who was promoted one down scored 16 off 7 balls with two sixes as Karachi was looking on the way to chase the target. But, after that wickets started to tumble in quick successions and Karachi lost the remaining eight wickets for just 32 runs. 

After Clarke's dismissal with Karachi's score of 109 runs, other batters including Rohail Nazir and Qasim Akram, Imad Wasim and Lewis Gregory failed badly as Quetta won the game emphatically. 

While in terms of bowling for Quetta, the stand-out bowler Mohammad Shehzad and Naseem Shah. Shehzad picked 4-22 in four overs, while pacer Naseem was also good with figures of 2-14 in four overs.   

Batting first, Quetta handed a 167-run target to Karachi Kings in a must-win game.

Earlier, Gladiators batting line-up failed to set a big target for the Kings. Jason Roy was the only Gladiators batter who played according to the situation and scored a blistering 64-ball 82.

James Vince could only get to 29 runs in 24 balls before being bowled by Lewis Gregory.

It was an all-around performance from the Kings bowlers as they brilliantly bowled and dismantled the Gladiators batting line-up.

Imad Wasim was the stand-out bowler for the Kings as he took one wicket and gave away 27 runs in four overs bowled.
