Multan Sultans outclassed Karachi Kings' by seven wickets in the opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at National Stadium in Karachi with skipper Mohammad Rizwan playing a fine 52-run not-out knock to help his team start this year's PSL campaign on a winning note on the night when Babar Azam failed to play a big inning.

Sultans remained on top as Tahir's spell restricted Kings' to a paltry 124-run total, and in reply, Sultans chased down the 125 run target in 18.2 overs with Shan Masood (26) and Sohaib Maqsood (30) remaining notable scorers other than Rizwan.

Rizwan in scored 52 runs in 47 balls with the help of five fours and a one six, while Babar didn't get the flow in his inning as he perished for just 23 runs off 29 balls.

Imran Tahir was the star with the ball today for Multan Sultans as his brilliant spell of 3-16 in fours overs helped restrict Karachi Kings' to a meager 124 run total for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs in the opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022.

Only aggressive opener Sharjeel Khan was the top-scorer of Kings' as he notched 43 runs off 31 balls, while Babar Azam failed to play a big knock getting out for 23 runs.

Meanwhile, for the Kings', the fall of wickets began in the 10th over when Tahir picked up the first and crucial wicket of Sharjeel Khan (43), who was on a roll with his opening partner and skipper Babar Azam.

Later in the 11th over, Khushdil Shah took the wicket of Babar in the next over (23), piling up pressure on the Sultans.

Mohammad Nabi was the third man to go for 10 of 17 balls and the man to dismiss him was Tahir. In the same over, the veteran spinner picked up the wicket of Tom Lammonby (1). Joe Clarke (26) was dismissed by Shahnawaz Dahani in the 18th over.

The Sultans only gave six extras in 20 overs. Defending champions Multan had won the toss and elected to field first against Karachi.

It should be noted that Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and decided to bowl against Karachi Kings in the opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Cricket Stadium Karachi.
