Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir bashed the wicketkeeper and batter, Rishabh Pant, for being struck out in an irresponsible manner by playing a reckless shot and throwing his wicket away in the ongoing second Test against South Africa when the visitors were in a tricky situation.

Gambhir, during a show on Star Sports, said: "The easier thing to do is to keep sledding someone and the toughest thing is what you have to face when you have a bat in your hand. I would have liked Rishabh to probably fight in that situation rather than stepping out and going for a big one."

He added: "Disappointment is a very, very understated word to be honest because this is not how you should play Test cricket."

"Test cricket is about learning a lot from Dean Elgar and that's the reason I have said that a lot of young Indian batters can learn a lot from Dean Elgar as well because when you play against world-class bowlers, they are not going to give you easy runs," he said about Indian batters."

He just gave his wicket away at a time when his team was in need, as his dismissal left India at 167-5, but Hanuman Vihari's 40 not-out and Thakur's 28 helped visitors to give the home team s 240-run target.
