Former Pakistan cricket team head coach Mickey Arthur on Thursday congratulated star batter Babar Azam over his inclusion among the four shortlisted candidates for ICC Men's ODI Player of the Year Award 2021.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) included Babar for his brilliant show with the bat in 2021.

The Pakistani skipper only played six ODIs during the calendar year but amassed 405 runs at an average of 67.50 with two centuries.

Arthur always remained a true admirer of Babar's class and skill and was instrumental in his development as a world-class player.

The 53-year-old coach wrote on Twitter: "A big congrats to one of the best!"

It is pertinent to mention that Arthur worked as the head coach of Pakistan for three years from 2016-2019. During his tenure, Pakistan became the number one Test side, won the Champions Trophy 2017, and also became the number one T20I team.

After leaving the Pakistan team, he became the coach of the Sri Lanka national cricket team and is now working as head of cricket at Derbyshire County Cricket Club in England.
