George Kambosos Jr beat Teofimo Lopez by split decision to take the throne as new unified world lightweight champion at the Hulu Theatre in New York.

With scores of 115-112 and 115-111, and 114-113 (respectively by three different judges) — the Australian fighter came out on top of Teofimo Lopez and claimed victory over the Brooklyn boxer.

The Australian boxer has revealed how he beat Lopez at the Hulu Theatre.

Kambosos said that any other fighter wouldn't have lasted that long.

"Any other lightweight in the world would not have lasted," he told Bleacher Report.

"I'm a warrior. I'm a spartan warrior. I'm cut from a different cloth. A lot of fighters say it, but they don't go in the ring with it, and when it gets tough, they quit.

The 28-year-old said that rather than giving up after a tough fight, he put his life on the line to win the fight.

"And there really is no quit, there is no retreat or surrender in my head. I was willing to die to win that fight. It's part of the story. It's part of my destiny."

Despite all the adversity and beating, the unified world lightweight champion was calm during the fight.

"I got up. I showed the heart that I have. I came back in the last 30 seconds, too, and landed some really good shots. When he went back to his corner I've heard for a fact that he turned around and said 'This guy's not normal. This guy's made of steel. I can't get rid of him," he said.

Kambosos was all about confidence and determination when he won the fight against Teofimo Lopez.

"I knew it when I went back to my corner. I was laughing. I was smiling and my coach was asking 'Why are you laughing?' I said 'You know why? Because I made the mistake, now I'm going to punish him for two rounds. You watch what I'm going to do to him," he added.
