George Kambosos Jr on Saturday beat Teofimo Lopez by split decision to take the throne as new unified world lightweight champion at the Hulu Theatre in New York.

With scores of 115-112 and 115-111, and 114-113 (respectively by three different judges) — the Australian fighter came out on top of Teofimo Lopez and claimed victory over the Brooklyn boxer.

George Kambosos Jr completed a knockdown after throwing a strong hand at Lopez in the first round.

As both of the fighters exchanged shots in the early rounds, Teofimo Lopez found it difficult to control a determined and vicious George Kambosos Jr who kept firing back with flurries of punches.

In the 11th round, Teofimo Lopez's eye bled and stopped the action for a brief moment, but George Kambosos Jr continued with the same determination ad attacked fiercely until the end to earn a momentous victory.
