Emma Raducanu, who became the first qualifier to win a grand-slam title after beating Leyla Fernandez in the US Open final in September.

Since Virginia Wade in 1977, Emma Raducanu became the first British to win a grand slam title.

Rebecca Myers, who is a lead reporter for the Sportswomen of the Year awards, congratulated all the winners and especially the 19-year-old tennis star who made history.

"Congratulations to all our winners in what has been a ground-breaking year for women's sport.

"Our very worthy Sportswoman of the Year for 2021, Emma Raducanu, made history at the US Open and inspired so many young girls and women back home with her success."

In a tweet, The Sunday Times announced Emma Raducanu as Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year 2021.

"Emma showed us a glimpse of the exciting future ahead when she stunned the crowds at Wimbledon — before triumphing at the US Open just two months later," The Sunday Times wrote.
