The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India on Tuesday came forward in fast bowler Mohammed Shami's support, after the pacer suffered online abuse following India's defeat against Pakistan.

And as soon as the contest finished, fans on Instagram and Twitter hurled disrespectful statements about Shami, with some going so far as to call him a traitor and suggesting he "go to Pakistan".

BCCI shared a picture of the 31 year old pacer with captain Virat Kohli on Twitter and stated: "Proud, Strong, Upward and onward."

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was also trolled after India lost the match to Pakistan by 10 wickets.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan also came out in Shami's support as they condemned the online abuse on him.
