Richie Berrington's 70-run knock off 49 balls propelled Scotland a 17-run victory over Papua New Guinea in the ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday.

Scotland who stunned Bangladesh, have inched closer of securing their Super 12s stage berth.

The Scotland side registered a second successive win during the fifth and first round match of the T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss, Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer elected to bat first as his side posted 165-9 in 20 overs at the Al Amerat Ground.

While defending the total in reply, the Scottish bowlers were on the money from the get go as Papua New Guinea got off to a terrible start.

Fast bowlers Josh Davey picked Tony Ura’s scalp in the second over to leave the chasing team 5-1.

The Scottish side never let the Papua New Guinea batters post a threatening partnership as they left them reeling at 67-6.

Though, seventh wicket stand of 53 runs between Kiplin Doriga and Norman Vanua showed some fight, their wickets left all hopes dashed. Norman Vanua played a blistering knock of 47 runs of 37 balls with 2 maximums.

While, Josh Davey marked his career best figures with 4-18 in 3.3 overs.

The crucial 92-run, third-wicket partnership between Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington helped the Scottish side to reach the fighting total after they were 26-2.

For the Papua New Guinea side, Kabua Morea and Chad Soper were the stand-out bowlers.

Kabua picked 4-31 while Soper picked 3-24.
