MCC inducts 18 new players in honorary life membership

MCC honored several former cricketers from different countries for its Honorary Life Membership

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) honored several former cricketers from different countries for its Honorary Life Membership, it was announced on Tuesday.

On the occasion the club tweeted: “MCC awards Honorary Life Membership of the Club to some of the world’s best cricketers. We are delighted to announce the names of the latest men and women to have been bestowed with this privilege."

The players from the neighboring-county that made the cut are former India off-spinner and world-cup winner Harbhajan Sindh and former India right-arm pacer Javagal Srinath.

About Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath, the club wrote in its release:

"The Indian duo Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath both enjoyed fine international careers. Harbhajan is India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests, with 417 dismissals in 103 Tests while Srinath is one of the country’s greatest ODI players, taking 315 wickets to end his career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in ODIs."

Apart from the Indian duo, the MCC honored several former cricketers from other nations too.

From England, the list includes the stylish left-hander Sir Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Marcus Trescothick and woman cricketer Sarah Taylor.

While, Hashim Amla, Herschelle Gibbs, Morne Morkel and all-rounder Jacques Kallis were named from South Africa.

Australia’s Damien Martyn and Alex Blackwell were also inducted in the list.

From West Indies Ian Bishop, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan made the cut.

Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Rangana Herath , Zimbabwe's Grant Flower and New Zealand's Sara McGlashan completed the list.

The MCC said that the latest list of Honorary Life Members included some of the most great names in modern cricket.
