Zinedine Zidane says Benzema deserves to win the Ballon d'Or

Karim Benzema has been phenomenal for both Real Madrid and the French national team this year.

The Frenchman is surely a serious contender for the Ballon d’Or due to his brilliant performance.

If Real Madrid striker, Benzema wins the grand prize, much of the credit will go to the former Real Madrid player and coach Zidane. He was the key to Benzema’s development and elite form over the years when working together.

Zidane himself won the Ballon d’Or in 1998 after winning the World Cup. The former Los Blancos coach believes Benzema is ahead of every other player at the moment.

"Karim is in fine form. I would give him the Ballon d'Or. He deserves it," Zidane told Telefoot.

"Benzema deserves it. He is an incredible player, I had the great honour of coaching him.

"He knows how to do everything on the field. He is above [everyone] and I hope he can be rewarded with this Ballon d'Or," Zidane added.

Along with the great Zidane, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also rates the Real Madrid front-man above everyone.

"There are no outright favorites this year," Wenger commented.

"In terms of individual performance and consistency, Benzema is at the highest level.

"The uncertainty is: will the weight of trophies play a decisive role?"

Benzema’s teammate in the French national team, Hugo Loris also thinks that the Los Blancos striker is at the highest level of his game.

"Benzema leads by example: what he does on the field, his stats...," he said.

"He deserves all the praise we give him."
