Middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has thrown his weight behind hard hitter Asif Ali, saying that he is capable of performing for the Pakistan cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Pakistani actor and TV host Fahad Mustafa took to Twitter on Tuesday to express his disapproval of Asif while applauding Iftikhar Ahmed for being a more suitable choice for the T20 World Cup.

Sohaib responded to the tweet with modesty by applauding both cricketers.

He said, "Fahad Bhai [brother], Iftikhar is a quality player and may be in form of his life but trust me Asif Ali is a quality number 6 as well. I hope he shows to the world in the World Cup what he is capable of. And, playing number 4 and 6 is a very different thing altogether in T20s."

"Iftikhar Ahmed is a complete all-rounder, I think he should have been in the squad instead of Asif Ali. I am wondering, who is Asif Ali and why is he irreplaceable", he said.

It is pertinent to mention that Asif was unable to deliver according to the expectations of fans in the National T20 Cup.

With the highest of 43 runs in a single match, Asif totaled 124 runs from seven matches in the National T20 Cup.

After his surprising selection in the T20 World Cup squad as well as the amended squad, fans were furious.
