KARACHI: Pakistan's opening batter Imam-ul-Haq finally got appreciated by one of his biggest critics and former Test cricketer Tanvir Ahmed.

Imam, who rose to his ODI career-best second position in latest ICC rankings following his performance in home ODI series against West Indies, was often criticized by Ahmed for being the nephew of former Test cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Speaking to a local Tv channel, Ahmed highly praised Imam for performing despite nepotism claims and media pressure. "I would like to appreciate Imam for his performance despite all the pressure," Ahmed said.

"It wasn't easy for him to handle with the pressure of Inzamam being his uncle then media pressure too. His performance despite all the pressure is a proof that he possesses some special ability," he acknowledged.

It must be noted here that Imam was the highest run-scorer in recently concluded three-matches ODI series against West Indies. He scored 199 runs in three matches at an average of66.33 and strike rate of94.31.
