Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis has said that the upcoming series against Zimbabwe will provide the management an opportunity to rest top bowlers, The News reported today.

Talking to media in a virtual press conference on Saturday, the 49-year-old said that he’s aware of the bowlers’ workload and try to test team’s bench strength in the two Tests and three T20Is against Zimbabwe.

“We are considering all options, knowing well that our bowlers are coming out of long break because of PSL’s untimely postponement,” Waqar said. “We know well how much cricket top bowlers need. We also want to test our bench strength. Zimbabwe series would provide us that opportunity.”

The former cricketer was confident that a strong bowling combination would be finalized by the World Cup T20.

“Our effort is to prepare the best combination for the coming World Cup. A few options we have with us and are trying to get a clear picture well in time,” he said.

Waqar added that it was not easy for bowlers to bowl in the South African pitches, calling them “batting paradise.”

“T20 cricket requires such luxury where bowlers most of the time struggle,” he said. “Yet we managed them well in the last T20. If South Africa scored over 200, we chased down the total easily.”

While the team’s bowling coach was satisfied with the performance of bowlers, he acknowledged there were some weaknesses to work on. “There is always room for improvement,” he said. “We are working on some of the weaknesses we have seen. Shaheen, Haris, Faheem and Hasan all know well what is required of them.”
