Chennai Super Kings were dealt a heavy blow by the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan during the 58th match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, as both players notched up centuries.

Batting together for a total of 98 deliveries, the pair amassed an impressive 210-run partnership for the first wicket, reaching their centuries in emphatic fashion.

Captain Gill reached his fourth IPL century with a boundary past square leg in the 17th over. This marked the 24-year-old's sixth century in T20 cricket and his fourth at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where he had also scored a T20I century for India last year.

For Sai Sudharsan, it was his maiden century in the IPL, achieved with a maximum in the same over as Gill’s hundred. Sudharsan surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad to become the fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in the IPL.

Both Sudharsan and Gill were dismissed by Tushar Deshpande in the 18th over, as Gujarat Titans went on to post a formidable total of 231/3.

Meanwhile, they also equalled the record for the highest stand by an opening pair in IPL and the fourth highest overall.
