Real Madrid won their historic 36th La Liga title after Barcelona suffered a humiliating 4-2 defeat against Girona at Estadi Montilvi on Saturday.

Real Madrid remained the team with the most titles in La Liga history with a whopping 36 titles to their name. The closest to them is Barcelona with 27 league titles while Atletico Madrid is at third with 11 league trophies.

By beating Barcelona, Girona, who are now on second position in La Liga, officially qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2024/25, which would be their first-ever participation in the tournament.

Madrid, led by Carlo Ancelotti, defeated Cadiz FC 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier today with goals from Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham and Joselu cruising them to victory.

After their win over Cadiz, Madrid only needed Barcelona to drop one point but the Blaugrana failed miserably in Girona as they conceded four against them.

Nothing went Barcelona’s way against Girona as despite taking a lead in the first minute of the match, they conceded three minutes later. They managed to take the lead once again just before the half-time whistle with Robert Lewandowski converting from the penalty spot.

Girona made a remarkable comeback in the second half and pinned Barcelona in their own half. The home side scored three goals in the last 45 minutes and emerged victorious.

With the league title secured, Real Madrid will now turn their attention to the Champions League where they will host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final at the Bernabeu.

The first leg at the Allianz Arena ended 2-2 with Vinicius Junior scoring twice for Los Blancos while Leroy Sane and Harry Kane netted once for the Bavarians.

The winner of the semi-final at the Bernabeu will play one of Borussia Dortmund or Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final at England’s iconic Wembley Stadium.

Should Real Madrid win the Champions League, it would be their record-extending 15th European title, the most in history.
