Rafael Nadal is looking forward to his partnership with Carlos Alcaraz during the doubles event at Paris Olympics this year.

The 22-time singles Grand Slam champion is keen to play some doubles tournaments in the build-up to the elusive event.

Alcaraz had earlier said that he is eager to feature at the Olympics alongside his idol bearing in mind that the ‘King of Clay’ is expected to retire at the end of the season.

At the Madrid Open where both are playing this week, the 20-year-old admitted that starting the discussion with Nadal over the matter made him nervous but the latter put him at ease.

"Carlos doesn't have to ask me anything, all things being well, we'll play," Nadal said during the IGUALES podcast. "It's also hugely exciting for me. If I'm not mistaken, I've heard it is for him too.

"So it would be great to play the odd tournament before the Olympics to prepare ourselves and to get some rapport on court."

Two-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz will make his Olympic debut this year, meanwhile Nadal will look to win his third gold medal after winning in singles in the 2008 Beijing Games and doubles in Rio in 2016.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, who could bring the curtain down at the end of the 2024 season, returned to action in Brisbane after recovering from a hip flexor injury which kept him on the sidelines for almost a year.

Soon after, a thigh issue ensured he was on the sidelines once again but he made a comeback in Barcelona last week. However, Nadal says he is still not sure if he will play in next month's French Open.

The tennis event at the Paris Games will be held on clay at Roland Garros, where Nadal has bagged 14 major titles.

"I think if we're both fit enough, why not? We could have the chance to form a great team and aspire to great things," Nadal said of the partnership.

"It would be good for both of us. It would also be good for the Spanish team, so we'll see how things progress."

Nadal, a five-time champion in Madrid, will lock horns with Australian 10th seed Alex de Minaur in the next round on Saturday.
