Discarded cricketer Umar Akmal met three-time former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at his residence in London.

Speaking to the media after his meeting on Friday, Akmal said he made a special request to the PMLN's head.

"I am thankful to him [Nawaz Sharif] for taking out time for me. It's an honour for me. I have made a request to him, I am hopeful that my request would be taken up," said the veteran cricketer.

Akmal refused to disclose his request but showed confidence in the upliftment of cricket in Pakistan under the leadership of Nawaz.

Earlier, Pakistan team's all-rounder Faheem Ashraf met Nawaz at his residence last year.

Faheem, who last played an ODI match back in 2021, was named in Pakistan's squad for the upcoming Afghanistan series and Asia Cup.

Pakistan's squad has gathered in Sri Lanka where they will play three ODIs against Afghanistan on August 22, 24, and 26.

Later on, Pakistan will play its first Asia Cup match against Nepal on August 30 in Multan. PCB will host the Asian event at home and in Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.
