A1 Team Australia was the winner of the fair play and sportsmanship award at the 2006/07 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport gala awards. When A1 Team Portugal arrived in Durban with little equipment it was Australia who stepped in and completed the mandatory pit stop for the new team; a true testament the series’ global spirit.

A win is yet to come Australia’s way but with former Formula One World Champion Alan Jones as the driving force behind the team it has the experience, determination and positive outlook to sip celebratory champagne in A1GP’s third season; perhaps at the series’ third visit to the Eastern Creek circuit where a wholesome 50,000 spectators turned out to watch last year’s event.

During the past two seasons A1 Team Australia has used more drivers than any other team. They called on five different race drivers over the course of the inaugural season, with three recording podium finishes. Three more – Karl Reindler, Ryan Briscoe and Ian Dyk – represented their country in the 2006/07 season, and all finished on the podium. This year Ian Dyk will lead the Australian bid with rookies John Martin and Daniel Ricciardo beside him.

As a nation steeped in motorsport tradition and culture, A1 Team Brazil’s presence in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport is of significance. One of the men who has shaped Brazil's motor racing history, Emerson Fittipaldi, continues as the head of the team with Ronaldo, the World Cup-winning Brazilian striker, alongside him as joint-seat holder.

A1 Team Brazil’s entry to the inaugural season of A1GP couldn’t have gone better with Nelson Piquet Jr. claiming double victory at Brands Hatch. Finishing sixth overall in season one gave Brazil optimism for it's second championship fight but fierce competition meant the team ended the 2006/07 season positioned 18th overall.

With a wealth of young talent to select from, Team Brazil will inevitably prove that its enthusiasm and energy will spur it on to become a front runner this season.

Canadian businessman Wade Cherwayko has seen A1 Team Canada clinch 10th and 11th in the A1GP standings after powerful displays from his squad over the last two seasons.

James Hinchcliffe took an impressive second place from the 2006/07 Sprint race at Brno, Czech Republic; even more of an achievement when considering it was only his second event in the maple leaf clad car. As a key driver for the team this season there is every possibility he will be standing proud on the podium again.

The team proved in the first season that it had what it takes to finish among the top ten in the championship and narrowly missed out on a repeat performance last season.

A1 Team China is a perfect example of how motorsport can receive patriotic support in a country without a strong motorsport background. A1 Team China proved itself to be one of the fastest developing teams in the inaugural season.

Starting the inaugural season seven seconds behind the fastest car at the first test session at Silverstone in August 2005, A1 Team China continued to improve, the highlight being a fifth place in the Feature race in Dubai.

This got even better last season. The team scored it's first podium of the season with a sensational Feature race in Eastern Creek, Australia. Ho-Pin Tung drove around the outside of Jeroen Bleekemolen’s A1 Team Netherlands car to move into third.

The team was named the Most Improved Team at the A1GP gala awards at the end of last season, thanks to moving up from 22nd to 15th in the rankings.

A1 Team Czech Republic had a good 2005/06 season, scoring points consistently and improving through the season. Tomas Enge, as the main driver for the team managed to score ten top ten finishes with three podium finishes. The highlight for the team came at the final race in Shanghai, when Enge won a fantastic Feature race ahead of A1 Team Malaysia’s Alex Young. In the second season the team finished 12th in the overall standings with seven top-ten finishes.

Enge has been the most capped driver for A1 Team Czech Republic, having taken part in 34 races. Perhaps the most memorable was not the victory in China, but the second place in Brno last season, which at that point, was the highest a driver had finished at their home A1GP event.

Seat holder of the team, Antonin Charouz is no stranger to racing either, competing in various Touring Car Championships and Hill Climbing Races. Antonin also uses his experience to help and look after the careers of young Czech drivers.

A1 Team France has had mixed fortunes over the past two years. Drivers Alexandre Prmat and Nicolas Lapierre dominated the inaugural A1GP title fight with a total of 13 wins out of 22 races, three pole positions, and five fastest laps.

It is only compared to A1 Team France’s domination in 2005/06 that the 2006/07 season could be classed as a disappointment for them. A1 Team France failed to occupy the top podium position but while a victory eluded the tri-color team, Nicolas Lapierre and Loic Duval were regular visitors to second and third place on the podium and a healthy points tally equated to a strong fourth place in the overall standings for 2006/07.

The third season is a chance for Team France to refocus and bounce back as a team capable of winning.

A1 Team Germany was the success story of the 2006/07 season. In A1GP’s first year Germany achieved a respectable 15th final position but that was blown out of the water during 2006/07 as the team led the championship for nearly the entire season and had won the title with the final event still to be contested.

Teenager Nico H?lkenberg won the first Feature race in Zandvoort which proved to be the first of many. In fact, he became the driver to win the most races, and lead the most laps in A1GP’s history.

Seat Holder Willi Weber will be supporting the 2007/08 drivers at the wheel of the black, red and yellow machine and together they embark on the mammoth task of trying to repeat Team Germany’s stunning performance.

A1 Team Great Britain was the first team to achieve glory on home turf in the Sprint race at Brands Hatch 2006/07. A double celebration ensued as the final chequered flag of the season was waved and Great Britain finished third overall in the championship standings. However, their season-long battle with Team New Zealand for second place had been lost…by one mere point.

Robbie Kerr took to the wheel of the distinctive red, white and blue car for the majority of the season and secured two wins, seven podiums and two fastest laps. The 27-year-old-driver,a former British Formula 3 champion, will be joined by Oliver Jarvis who also proved he had what it takes to top the field when he won in Mexico City. The pair will return for the 2007/08 season looking to continue the strong results that emerged at the end of last season, making them serious contenders for the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Oliver Turvey joins the team as Rookie.

A1 Team India gave its new breed of motorsport fans something to cheer about as it scored its best result (fourth) in the last race of the 2006/07 season at Brands Hatch, indicating it is on the road to scoring a podium position in the 2007/08 season. India is not a nation famed for motorsport so finishing 16th overall last season is a fantastic achievement and a solid foundation on which to build motivation and support for its bid in A1GP’s third season.

Narain Karthikeyan is the nation's top motorsport talent and after taking part in the final eight races of the 2006/07 season for A1 Team India he returns to the team on the crest of a wave.

A1 Team Indonesia is one of the smaller teams on the grid but that does not make them any the less potent.

The first two seasons of A1GP proved to be a steep learning curve for the team and drivers of A1 Team Indonesia. New tracks and high international racing standards meant that good results and championship points were hard to come by.

Off the track the team has endeavored to increase interest in motorsport among young Indonesians, embarking on program to encourage new drivers. If the passion Indonesian fans have shown for the series is anything to go by, it won’t be long before A1 Team Indonesia has a large pool of talent to select from.

After a strong debut season in which A1 Team Ireland scored a podium finish in Portugal, the team suffered a frustrating 2006/07 season until a change of race chassis produced a turning point in China, allowing lead driver Richard Lyons to fight through the field to ultimately score a seasons’ best 5th in the feature. The team is determined to achieve its first win in season three and have assembled its strongest squad to date.

Off the track the team has continued to set the benchmark, winning the ‘Best Presented Team’ award for the second year running and taking the ‘Best Livery’ trophy at the end of season A1GP gala awards.

Seat Holders Mark Kershaw and Mark Gallagher continue to run A1 Team Ireland with the objective of being successful on track, and one of the most visible and high profile teams off it. A victory for the team in season three is its key objective.

As the only Arab team competing in the series, Lebanon represents its home country, the Lebanese diaspora and the wide population of Arabs around the globe. With a population of 4.4 million, Lebanon is one of the smallest countries of the series and has had very little motorsport renown. Despite this, support for the nation is high with the Lebanese flag flying in the crowds at every race so far.

A1 Team Lebanon is the only competitor yet to score championship points but it looks to break its duck following the introduction of a restructured squad for the 2007/08 season. With a fresh start and the will to prove its place in the World Cup of Motorsport the tide could turn for Team Lebanon.

A1 Team Malaysia starts the 2007/08 season third on the all-time list of A1GP winners, having taken four victories in the first two seasons, including a famous double at Brno, in the Czech Republic.

Local hero Alex Young is A1 Team Malaysia's key driver. He is the most successful racing driver to hail from Malaysia and joint most-capped driver in A1GP. He starts the 2007/08 season with 41 race starts, beating A1 team Indonesia's Ananda Mikola.

Alex's breakthrough came in 2001 when as Malaysia's only driver to reach Formula One, he was contracted with the Minardi F1 team for the end of the 2001 World Championship season. His 15 races in Formula 1 in 2001 and 2002 yielded best results of seventh in the 2002 Australian Grand Prix and tenth in the 2002 French Grand Prix.

As well as being the team's main driver, Alex is also part of the very successful management team that brought A1 Team Malaysia to the front of the grid in the first season.

A1 Team Mexico had a difficult first half to the 2005/06 season, after a podium finish in the first race at Brands Hatch promised good results, some disappointing races followed.

The team’s performance in the second half of the season yielded vast improvements, results including the double victory at Laguna Seca.

Four podium finishes last season led to a tenth-place championship finish, however, the team has suffered the worst performance at home of any team failing to finish in the points position at and of its home race.

After the first season’s first-lap accident in Monterrey which ruined the meeting for driver Salvador Duran, lighting effectively struck twice in Mexico City last year, after he was involved in another first lap accident. He did, however, get back out on track to claim the bonus point for fastest lap.

Jeroen Bleekemolen, the 25 year old from Aerdenhout returns as his country’s lead driver for the World Cup of Motorsport’s third season and alongside him is Arie Luyendyk jr, the son of the two times Indianapolis 500 winner.

Consistency was the Netherlands’ greatest strength throughout the 2006/07 season; it finished 20 of the 22 races and consequently achieved 5th place in the overall standings; an improvement of two positions from 2005/06. Tokyo Sexwale heads up A1 Team South Africa. A former political prisoner with Nelson Mandela, he was elected the first Premier of South Africa’s prestigious Province Gauteng during the Mandela presidency.

Now a prominent South African industrialist, Sexwale is a firm believer in economic patriotism, and is deeply committed to pursuing the dream of economic prosperity and democracy in South Africa. This overriding commitment of Sexwale to South Africa, its democracy and its people fits in perfectly with the patriotic nature of A1GP.

The team suffered an inconsistent 2006/07 with both highs and lows. They burst into the season on a high, taking their maiden victory in the very first race at Zandvoort. Adrian Zaugg fought hard with Mexico’s Salvador Duran in the opening laps, but was strong enough to re-pass and ultimately take the Sprint race win.

However, the team ended up 14th in the championship standings, and scored only one more podium finish after their win. Zaugg was again behind the wheel and took third in the Mexico Feature race.

A1 Team Switzerland had a superb introduction to A1GP in its first season coming second in the overall standings. Season Two saw the emergence of Sebastien Buemi as a consistent top-ten finisher while Neel Jani secured the team’s sole win in Sepang. Eighth was the overall finishing position for the team run by ex Formula One team boss, Max Welti.

Switzerland may be a small nation but it has a pool of talented drivers to select from. A1 Team Switzerland is a passionate, intelligent team and one to look out for in Sepang, Malaysia due to it's strong record of success at the Asian circuit.

The inaugural season of A1GP proved to be a challenge for A1 Team USA but the lessons learned were put into practice the following year resulting in an impressive ninth position in the overall standings.

Peter Briggs joins the team as manager for 2007/08 with a wealth of motorsport experience and motivation. A1 Team USA has never achieved a win but has come very close by crossing the finish line second on three occasions. The third season could be the one in which spectators will see the stars-and-stripes dressed car take the chequered flag ahead of the rest. According to Seat Holder Rick Weidinger, if Team USA continues to improve at the same rate as previous seasons it will finish in the top five for season three but he expects, “even greater results.”
